MISSION

Georgetown Oratory is a special place. It’s not a parish, but you can call it home. It is a dynamic community of Faith, committed to excellence in Worship, and maximal engagement of the Lay Faithful in numerous ministries. Here you will find reverent Liturgy, and inspirational Preaching.

Care for the Oratory was entrusted to the Jesus Guild www.jesusguild.org in 2022, so you will find an emphasis on Beauty in the Sacred Arts in all that we do. The Rector of the Oratory is appointed by the Bishop from the Jesus Guild, but the pastoral outreach of the Oratory is separate from the activities of the Guild.

The Oratory is a family friendly environment, where children of all ages are invited to participate fully in the life of the Church.

I'M NEW

I’M NEW

If you’re not yet a Catholic, coming to Mass can feel very intimidating. Everyone seems to know what to do and you feel lost. But we’re here to provide a friendly welcome and to help you with any questions you might have about being a Christian.

There are many resources to help you online, but ultimately it is in community that our Faith is nourished, and where we encounter Jesus, who fulfills the longing of every human heart, and calls us to Himself even before we fully know Him.

Our doors are open for you at all stages of your journey, whether you are ready to take a concrete step, or you are just curious. Feel free to talk to one of the priests after Mass, or at the Sunday convivium in the Hall. We deal with all enquirers on a case-by-case basis.

SERMONS

SERMONS

Preaching at the Oratory is orthodox, but challenging. Our aim is to be a biblically literate community, so sermons are rooted in the Scriptures.

The Rector’s Sunday Sermon is recorded each week and available to view here. Services are occasionally livestreamed on our Youtube channel. For more information, please see the Oratory blast.

MUSIC

MUSIC

Music is vital to our mission, and the Oratory is home to a number of choirs.

The Oratory Choir is a professional ensemble of Girls and Men. The Choristers, aged 8-18 are all enrolled in our choral scholarship program, and their schedule dovetails with their other educational commitments. The six Lay Clerks are professional singers who together the Choristers provide the music for the principal High Mass on Sundays and Feasts, for regular services of Choral Evensong, and our Music Outreach concert program across the Diocese.

The Schola Cantorum is a mixed group of men and women gathered to lead the singing at the 9:00 AM and 10:30 AM English language Masses. Led by one of the Lay Clerks as section leader, the Schola is an auditioned choir and sometimes provides music for additional Masses and concerts in the Diocese.

The Viri Galilaei are a men’s chant schola that meets every Wednesday evenings for Mass at 6:00 PM followed by Vespers, according to the Roman Rite.

Finally, Heart to Heart is a band which provides contemporary music in a contemplative style at the 4:00 PM Vigil Mass on Saturdays, and in different iterations at Praise & Worship Festivals during the summer months at suitable locations in the Diocese of Bridgeport.
